Tips & Tricks:

Tips for the Churro Cookies:
  • Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Make sure your butter, eggs, and cream cheese are at room temperature before you start. This helps everything blend together smoothly, resulting in a better texture for your cookies and frosting.
  • Don’t Overmix the Dough: When combining the dry and wet ingredients, mix just until everything is incorporated. Overmixing can lead to dense, tough cookies.
  • Chill the Dough (Optional): If you have the time, chilling the dough for about 30 minutes before baking can help prevent the cookies from spreading too much. This will give you a thicker, chewier cookie.
  • Cinnamon-Sugar Coating: The signature churro flavor comes from the cinnamon-sugar coating. Roll the cookies generously in this mixture before baking for an authentic churro taste. You can also sprinkle extra cinnamon sugar on top right after baking for even more flavor.
  • Frosting Consistency: If your frosting is too thick, you can add a little more whipped cream or a splash of milk to reach your desired consistency. If it’s too thin, try chilling it for a bit before spreading it on the cookies.
  • Extra Cinnamon Sugar: Keep a little extra cinnamon sugar on hand to sprinkle over the frosted cookies. This adds an extra touch of flavor and a beautiful finish.
  • Add a Filling: To take your churro cookies to the next level, consider adding a filling. Dulce de leche, Nutella, or even a cinnamon cream cheese filling pairs perfectly with the churro flavor.
  • Dip in Chocolate: For an indulgent touch, dip the bottoms of the cookies in melted chocolate, or drizzle some over the top. It adds richness and complements the cinnamon sugar perfectly.
General Tips:
  • Evenly Sized Cookies: Use a cookie scoop or a measuring cup to portion your dough evenly. This ensures that all your cookies bake at the same rate and have a uniform size.
  • Undercook Slightly: Churro cookies should have a soft, chewy center and slightly crisp edges. Undercooking them by a minute or two ensures they stay soft inside.
  • Pipe Dough for Authenticity: For a true churro look, use a piping bag fitted with a star tip to pipe the cookie dough into spiral shapes before baking. It mimics the traditional churro texture and adds visual appeal.
  • Serve Warm: Just like real churros, these cookies are best served warm. If you’ve baked them ahead, give them a quick zap in the microwave before serving for that fresh-from-the-oven taste.
  • Storage: Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you want to keep them longer, they can be refrigerated, but allow them to come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.

By following these tips, you’ll achieve deliciously soft and chewy Churro Cookies with the perfect cinnamon-sugar coating and just the right balance of sweetness and spice!
