Each bite offers a chewy, soft center with slightly crispy edges, creating the perfect texture contrast. The combination of cocoa powder in the dough and melty chocolate chips makes these cookies irresistibly decadent. Whether enjoyed warm from the oven with a glass of milk or packed up for a sweet snack later, they’re bound to become a favorite for chocolate enthusiasts. Plus, they’re easy to make and freeze well, so you can always have a batch on hand whenever a chocolate craving strikes!

Ingredients You’ll Need for the Double Chocolate Chip Cookies:

  • Unsalted butter, room temperature: Provides a rich, creamy base for the cookies and helps achieve a tender texture.
  • Brown sugar, packed: Adds sweetness and a deep, caramel-like flavor to the chocolate cookies.
  • Egg, room temperature: Binds the ingredients together and contributes to the cookie’s structure.
  • All-purpose flour: Provides structure and stability to the cookies.
  • Baking soda: Helps the cookies rise and become light and airy.

For making the Double Chocolate Chip Cookies, you’ll need the following tools:

Here is the full Recipe:

Ingredients:
  • 114 g (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 200 g (1 cup) brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 29 g (1/4 cup) cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp espresso powder
  • 125 g (1 cup) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 224 g (1 1/4 cups) chocolate chips
Directions:
  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: Place the softened butter and brown sugar in a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Beat on medium-high speed until the mixture is fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  4. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Scrape down the bowl again and add the cocoa powder, espresso powder, flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix on low speed, gradually increasing to medium until just combined and no streaks of flour remain.
  5. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. Shape and Bake: Use a 2-ounce cookie scoop to drop the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 11 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still gooey.
  7. Cool and Enjoy: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes until they are set. Enjoy these warm, gooey chocolate delights!

Tips and Tricks:

Tips for the Cookies:
  • Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure the butter and egg are at room temperature. This helps the ingredients blend more smoothly and results in a better texture for your cookies.
  • Use quality cocoa powder: For the best chocolate flavor, use high-quality unsweetened cocoa powder. It makes a big difference in richness.
  • Chill the dough: Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking helps the cookies maintain their shape and develop deeper flavors.
  • Add a pinch of salt: A small sprinkle of sea salt on top of the cookies before baking enhances the chocolate flavor and adds a nice contrast to the sweetness.
  • Measuring Flour: Accurately measure your flour to avoid overpacking, which can lead to dry cookies.
  • Mixing: Mix the dough until just combined to keep the cookies tender. Overmixing can result in tougher cookies.
  • Underbake for chewy centers: Remove the cookies from the oven when the edges are set but the centers look slightly underdone. They’ll continue to firm up as they cool, giving you perfectly soft and chewy cookies.
  • Mix chocolate types: For more depth, use a combination of milk, dark, and semi-sweet chocolate chips. This creates layers of chocolate flavor.
General Tips:
  • Cooling Time: Letting the cookies cool on the baking sheet allows them to finish cooking and firm up, ensuring they have the perfect texture.
